Neuromancer Is Finally Coming to Apple TV: Everything We Know About the Cyberpunk Series

After decades of being labeled “unfilmable,” William Gibson’s landmark 1984 novel Neuromancer is getting its first major screen adaptation. Apple TV’s 10-episode series is set to premiere on January 22, 2027, with the first two episodes dropping that day and new installments arriving weekly every Friday through March 19, 2027.

The book that helped define cyberpunk, coined the term “cyberspace,” and influenced everything from The Matrix to countless games and stories is finally heading to streaming with the author himself involved as an executive producer.

What the Series Is About

The official logline follows Case (Callum Turner), a damaged, top-rung super-hacker, who is pulled into a web of digital espionage and high-stakes crime alongside his partner Molly (Briana Middleton), a razor-girl assassin. Together they take on a heist targeting a powerful corporate dynasty with dangerous secrets.

In the novel, Case is a console cowboy who has been neurologically blocked from jacking into the matrix after stealing from his employers. Molly is the iconic street samurai with mirrored eyes and retractable blades under her nails. The story blends noir, heist, corporate intrigue, and AI in a near-future Sprawl that includes Chiba City and the orbital habitats of the Tessier-Ashpool family. Early reports suggest the series stays close to that core while expanding the world across its longer runtime.

Cast

The ensemble is stacked with recognizable talent:

  • Callum Turner as Case
  • Briana Middleton as Molly
  • Mark Strong as Armitage
  • Peter Sarsgaard as John Ashpool
  • Clémence Poésy as Marie-France Tessier
  • Joseph Lee as Hideo
  • Emma Laird as Linda Lee

Recurring and supporting roles include Dane DeHaan as Peter Riviera, Max Irons as Jean Tessier-Ashpool, André De Shields as Julius Deane, and Marc Menchaca as the Dixie Flatline.

Who’s Behind It

The series was created by Graham Roland (showrunner, known for Dark Winds and Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan) and J.D. Dillard (who directed the first three episodes). Apple ordered the series in February 2024. Filming began in Tokyo in January 2025. William Gibson serves as an executive producer and has been involved in answering questions about the source material, reading drafts, and offering suggestions—though he has emphasized that the adaptation is a collaborative work and not a direct page-to-screen translation of the book as any individual reader imagined it.

Other executive producers include Drake and Future via DreamCrew Entertainment. The show is produced by Paramount Television Studios and Anonymous Content.

What We’ve Seen So Far

Apple released a teaser on the novel’s 42nd anniversary in early July 2026, followed by a longer first-look trailer at San Diego Comic-Con later that month. The footage has been described as dark, gritty, and neon-soaked, with practical sets, cyberpunk atmosphere, and glimpses of Molly’s distinctive look and the high-tech underworld. Early reactions have been mixed but mostly intrigued, with many noting that the production appears to be taking the material seriously. Gibson himself has publicly expressed satisfaction with how production went.

Why This Matters

Neuromancer has been optioned and attempted multiple times over the decades but never made it to the screen until now. The 10-episode format gives the dense, layered story room to breathe in a way a feature film never could. With Apple’s recent track record in prestige sci-fi and Gibson’s involvement, expectations are high for how the series will visualize cyberspace, the Sprawl, and the novel’s distinctive tone.

The series premieres globally on Apple TV on January 22, 2027. Until then, the original novel (and its sequels Count Zero and Mona Lisa Overdrive) remains the definitive version of the story that started it all.
