DTF PRINTING

About Our DTFlex Printing

What is DTFlex (Direct-to-Film) printing?

DTFlex, also known as Direct-to-Film (DTF) printing, is a modern transfer printing method. A design is printed onto a special film, bonded with a hot-melt adhesive powder, and then heat-pressed onto the garment. This allows us to produce vibrant, full-colour prints with fine detail on a wide range of fabric types — including cotton, polyester, and blends.

How does DTFlex feel compared to screen printing or vinyl?

DTFlex prints have a slightly raised, smooth feel compared to the flat ink of traditional screen printing. They tend to feel more substantial than a thin screen-print but softer and more flexible than standard vinyl heat transfers. Some customers notice the texture more on lighter-weight fabrics. Over time and with proper care, the print softens and integrates more with the fabric.

How durable are DTFlex prints — will they crack or peel?

When cared for correctly, DTFlex prints are designed to be wash-durable for the life of a normal garment. That said, like all printed garments, longevity depends heavily on how they're washed and worn. The honest limits to be aware of:

  • Cracking or peeling can occur if garments are washed at high temperatures, tumble-dried on high heat, or ironed directly over the print.
  • Repeated harsh washing will shorten the life of any printed design, regardless of method.
  • DTFlex prints are not designed for prolonged submersion or commercial/industrial laundering.

How should I wash and care for my printed garment?

To keep your print looking its best, please follow these guidelines:

  • Wash inside-out on a cool or warm cycle (30°C / 86°F or lower).
  • Use a mild detergent — avoid bleach or fabric softeners, which can break down the adhesive layer.
  • Tumble dry on low heat, or air dry where possible.
  • Do not iron directly on the print. If ironing is needed, turn the garment inside-out and use a low setting.
  • Do not dry clean.

Following the care label on your garment is always a good starting point — our prints are designed to work within standard garment care instructions.

Is DTFlex printing suitable for people with sensitive skin?

DTFlex prints use heat-activated adhesive powders and pigment inks that are generally considered safe for skin contact during normal wear. However, if you have known sensitivities to adhesives or dyes, we recommend wearing the garment inside-out until washed, and washing it before first wear. If you experience any irritation, discontinue use and contact us. We cannot guarantee suitability for all skin types or medical conditions.

Will the print fade over time?

Some fading is normal with any printed garment over time, particularly with frequent washing. Following the care guidance above will help maintain colour vibrancy for as long as possible. Prints exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods may fade faster.
